Building Bridges: WiTech and Sigma Technology host a Pop-up Event in Karlskrona to Foster Diversity and Equality in IT & Tech

How can academia, private actors, and the public sector contribute to a more diverse and equal IT & Tech industry? This will be one of the key questions discussed during the first pop-up event by the female tech network WiTech in Karlskrona on March 30. Sigma Technology will host the event.

WiTech is a non-profit and independent organization that aims to create a meeting platform for students and companies to raise female role models and inspire the younger generation to invest in a career in IT. The network today gathers representatives from over 30 different companies and public organizations in Växjö and Kalmar. Karlskrona becomes the next city on WiTech’s expanding journey.

The pop-up event will focus on how we can make IT & Tech a top choice for future generations and create an attractive tech sector in Karlskrona. The evening will open with an inspirational talk from Matilda Höglund, a Blekinge Tekniska Högskolan student and Microsoft’s “Årets Tech-tjej” nominee. Matilda will share her perspective on why it’s crucial to ensure that the narrative about the tech sector is understandable and appealing to people from diverse backgrounds and personalities. The talk will be followed by a panel discussion with Tina-Mari Eriksson, Business Developer at Karlskrona Kommun, and Cajsa Augustzén, Business Developer at Paraply Produktion AB, and moderated by Annika Antonsson, Regional Manager at Sigma Technology.

“We have long looked at Karlskrona as a city for our further expansion as it is known for its strong tech potential and academic drive. We hope to meet many engaged women and organizations who agree with our vision of making IT & Tech an obvious career choice for future generations. The concept of a pop-up event includes WiTech-inspired events and Tech Talks gathering women & non-binary who either work, study, or are connected to the IT & Tech sphere via academia or the public sector with the goal of networking and knowledge-sharing,”says Jeanette Schwartz, chairwoman of the WiTech Board.

“We are honored to host WiTech’s first event in Karlskrona and look forward to fruitful discussions and networking during the evening. Recently, Blekinge Tekniska Högskolan was ranked first in software development. We at Sigma Technology see a strong potential to develop the region’s IT & Tech maturity. Having a diverse and equal industry is an important step along the way,” adds Annika Antonsson, Regional Manager at Sigma Technology.
