Sigma Technology Becomes Husqvarna’s Development Partner Within The Electrification Area

Husqvarna is a Swedish company and one of the oldest industrial companies in the world established in 1689. Husqvarna is a global leading producer of outdoor power products including chainsaws, trimmers, robotic lawnmowers, and ride-on mowers. Within the strategy of moving to the next phase towards industrialization, Husqvarna was looking for a development partner with solid experience in electrification to develop a power converter for the next-generation chargers of their electric handheld products. The main goal is to design a fully functional product concept that can be used for the next phase of industrialization.

Martin Almgren, Manager at Husqvarna responsible for Primary & Concept Development within handheld R&D, comments how he sees the foreseeable future of electrification: “Battery products are a very important part of Husqvarna's strategy of sustainable development. One of the biggest challenges for us is to create charging systems that cover different customers' requirements and user experiences. Moreover, we aim to lower the noise level of our products to meet urban environment regulations.”

The scope of this partnership between Sigma Technology and Husqvarna will be the further development of hardware and software for a power converter that will support Husqvarna’s 36V based electric handheld products. Mattias Gudasic, a Business area manager of in-house services at Sigma Technology, comments: “We are proud to be assigned to this project where we can uncover our knowledge of electrified products. There are some obvious challenges, generally, when we are designing high-power products that need very solid expertise within the electrification area but also we have to meet high demands that are put on these types of products regarding efficiency, packaging, and cost. The most significant part is that we got the chance to support and collaborate with Husqvarna in their progress to confirm their status as the leading provider of electric handheld products.” Martin Almgren also adds: “Sigma Technology is a strategic and long-term partner for us and we believe we can together develop expertise and evolve Husqvarna's future products.
