Press release —
Sigma Technology Expands in Norway with Focus on Embedded and Safety-Critical Development
Sigma Technology is establishing a new direction for Sigma Technology Systems AS in Norway, with a focus on embedded software and systems development, functional safety, and software development for mission-critical solutions. Patrick Høiby has been appointed President and will lead the operation from Oslo.
The establishment expands Sigma Technology's Norwegian offering into a field where software plays an increasingly important role in physical products and critical systems. The new direction combines local presence in Norway with more than 20 years of experience and expertise that Sigma Technology has built up across the Nordics in embedded development – spanning software through electronics. Sigma has delivered to some of the industry's most recognized, world-leading brands, including prominent players within automotive, defense, telecom, and manufacturing.
Sigma Technology now brings this experience into this new direction in Norway, which will target customers within security, defense, critical infrastructure, and other sectors where reliability, safety, and long-term performance are essential. The combination of deep technical and domain expertise is becoming increasingly important in meeting rising global demand for this type of solution, as more physical systems become digitalized and requirements for reliability and functional safety continue to grow.
While Sigma Technology's existing Norwegian operation, Sigma Technology Elevate, focuses on digital transformation, cloud technology, data, and IT infrastructure, Sigma Technology Systems AS will specialize in the development of embedded systems and safety-critical solutions. This spans everything from high- and low-level software development and firmware, through system and electronics architecture, to functional safety.
Patrick Høiby brings a unique combination of leadership experience from the Norwegian Armed Forces and more than twelve years of experience in the consulting and technology industry. His military background also gives him a distinctive perspective from the user side of technology in demanding, international operations – an understanding of how critical it is for this type of system to perform reliably, whether in defense or other industries where dependability is essential. He will lead the operation, which will support organizations developing the next generation of software-intensive, safety-critical systems.
Patrick Høiby, President for Sigma Technology Systems AS, says:
“There is significant technological development taking place in areas such as industry, defense, and critical infrastructure. We're seeing a global shift where an increasing number of physical systems are controlled, monitored, and advanced through software – driven by automation, electrification, and the growing use of sensor technology and connected devices – while requirements for safety, robustness, and quality continue to rise in parallel. Over many years, Sigma Technology has built strong expertise in these areas internationally, and I look forward to establishing and growing this business in Norway together with our customers and employees.”
Egil Svindal Fernando, Board Member of Sigma Technology Systems AS and President of Sigma Technology Elevate AS, says:
“We are delighted to welcome Patrick to the Sigma Technology family as President of Sigma Technology Systems AS. He combines a strong understanding of the industry with deep technical expertise and a genuine commitment to both people and business development. This provides a solid foundation for building a strong technical community and creating new opportunities for customers, employees, and the Sigma Technology Group in Norway.”
