Press release -
Sigma Technology, Jordkraft, and KTH collaborate on AI tools
The first version of JordMod™ – the AI-based simulation tool for deep drilling developed in collaboration between Jordkraft, Sigma Technology Insight Solutions, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) – is now being released.
The tool will play a significant role in streamlining and reducing costs in the development of geothermal electricity production.
“JordMod helps us streamline our processes on several levels,” says Jordkraft's CEO Jessica Friberg. "We can more quickly identify where it is ideal to drill, as well as how deep we need to go to reach the desired temperature. We save a lot of time and can offer more precise calculations and a more cost-effective solution."
Jordkraft develops technology to harness the heat in the Earth's crust to produce fossil-free electricity, completely independent of weather and wind conditions. In short, the technology involves leading water down into a deep-drilled hole where it is transformed into steam, which then rises upwards and drives a turbine above ground.
How deep you need to drill to reach the ideal temperature depends on the particular bedrock at the location in question. This can now be calculated in advance thanks to the AI solution JordMod. In the project, researchers at KTH contribute knowledge about how geological data should be interpreted to calculate the temperature.
Sigma Technology Insight Solutions, which developed the tool, sees great opportunities for accelerating technological innovations and the green transition with the help of AI.
“In a way, we’re digitalizing expert knowledge. By leveraging AI, we can structure and package the vast volumes of research data, making it more accessible, actionable, and applicable,” says Robert Åberg, President at Sigma Technology Insight Solutions.
“We are now looking forward to continuing our long-term, strategic collaboration with Jordkraft. Geothermal electricity production has great potential to become an important part of the energy mix of the future.”
The next step is to gradually fill the tool with more geological data – a long-term effort aimed at improving both precision and usability in different geographical areas.
AI and geothermal electricity production in Almedalen
During Almedalen Week, Jordkraft, Sigma Technology Insight Solutions, and KTH are arranging a joint panel discussion on the topic ‘Energy crisis or energy transition? The role of geothermal energy and AI.’

About Jordkraft Energy AB
Jordkraft is a Swedish limited liability company that develops modular, small-scale geothermal power plants designed for industrial, defense, and critical infrastructure applications. The heat in the Earth's interior is an unlimited energy source that Jordkraft will use groundbreaking technology to convert into stable, fossil-free, and cost-effective baseload electricity with minimal environmental and climate impact. The company's first commercial pilot project is planned to begin on the island of Gotland. Jordkraft was founded in 2023.
