Sigma Technology Origo launches ORIGO Product Cloud to implement EU Digital Battery Passports
Sigma Technology Origo AB today launches Origo Product Cloud, a scalable digital platform to help manufacturers prepare for the EU Digital Battery Passport requirements, which become mandatory for all industrial and electric-vehicle batteries* placed on the European market from February 2027.
Under the updated EU Battery Regulation, every battery must have a digital identity containing verified data on origin, composition, carbon footprint, performance, repairs, and end‑of‑life handling. This introduces a major shift for producers, especially SMEs, who need reliable ways to collect, manage, and share regulated data throughout the entire battery lifecycle.
Origo Product Cloud provides a persistent digital representation of each battery, continuously updated with verified data across production, second-life use, repurposing, and recycling. The platform integrates with manufacturing systems, aftermarket workflows, and service tools to create a complete, audit-ready lifecycle record.
In addition, Origo Product Cloud implements built-in compliance rules aligned with the EU Battery Regulation. These rules automatically validate required data fields, verify battery passports against current regulatory criteria, and ensure that documentation remains consistent with evolving EU standards. By embedding regulatory logic directly into the platform, manufacturers can proactively identify compliance gaps and reduce the risk of non-conformity before placing products on the market.
“Many producers underestimate the operational complexity of the Digital Battery Passport, and treat it as a static document,” said Johnny Fägersten, President at Sigma Technology Origo AB. “In practice, it requires continuous lifecycle data management. We designed Origo Product Cloud as a living digital system that evolves with the battery.”
The platform enables secure, role-based access to regulated data for manufacturers, operators, regulators, and recyclers, while protecting intellectual property and sensitive information.
Importantly, Origo Product Cloud is designed as a future-proof digital product passport infrastructure. As the EU introduces similar requirements for electronics, machinery, and other regulated goods, manufacturers can expand from batteries to other product categories without replacing systems.
“We want to make compliance scalable,” says Johnny Fägersten. “Our goal is to give Nordic manufacturers, large and small, a digital foundation that turns regulatory pressure into long-term competitiveness.”

*About the EU Battery Regulation
The EU Regulation 2023/1542 requires that all electric vehicle batteries, industrial batteries with a capacity of over 2 kWh, and batteries for light means of transport (LMT) must have a digital product passport from February 2027. The passport must contain information about the battery’s origin, composition, carbon footprint, performance, and recyclability.
