Sigma Technology Project Awarded 2nd Place in SBUF Innovation of the Year 2024

Sigma Technology Embedded Network is proud to announce that the “Safer TMA Shutdowns at Roadworks” project has been awarded second place in the prestigious SBUF Innovation of the Year Award 2024. The recognition highlights our commitment to engineering safer infrastructure through intelligent technology and marks a milestone for both the team and project manager Sara Dalvig, for whom this was her debut project leadership role.

Held in Stockholm on May 7th, the SBUF award ceremony celebrated the most impactful innovations in Sweden’s construction and infrastructure sectors. Notably, this year’s event made history as all three top finalists were led by women, for the first time in the award's 24-year history.

Sara Dalvig, consultant at Sigma Technology Embedded Network and project manager of the nominated solution, shares: “Sometimes work is even more fun than usual, like when you attend SBUF’s event in Stockholm, celebrating research and innovation in our industry. I’m incredibly honoured to receive second place for my very first project as a project manager!
The project explored how to use radar, cameras, and alarms to improve road safety during temporary lane closures, an area where too many lives are at risk. I’m also forever grateful to Sigma Technology Embedded Network and Svevia for the opportunity, support, and trust throughout the journey.

Danilo Chinchilla Sosa, President at Sigma Technology Embedded Network, comments: “Seeing Sara receive second place for her very first project is inspiring and a testament to the strength of our talent and our commitment to empowering the next generation of engineers and leaders. We’re also incredibly proud to be part of a historic moment where all finalists were women, showing that progress in innovation must also reflect progress in representation.”

The solution, developed in collaboration with Svevia, addresses a critical challenge in roadwork safety by equipping TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuator) vehicles with intelligent monitoring systems. These vehicles are essential for protecting road crews but are often involved in severe accidents. The project’s innovation is reducing collision risks using real-time data and automated alerts.
