A golden week of gastronomy

Last week Stockholm was filled with with activities and a gastronomic party as the industry gathered at Stockholmsmässan for the GastroNord and Vinordic exhibitions as well as the Bocuse d’Or Europe chef championships.  The party culminated with a gold medal finish for Sweden and Tommy Myllymäki.

“Gastronomic Week offered a fantastic week of food. Never before have there been so many food-related activities at Stockholmsmässan and downtown. It is clearly evident that there are a lot of people very interested in food. This was particularly evident at the fair – the entire hall was buzzing with enthusiasm. Exhibitors were closing deals and many people commented that it was the best exhibitions in a long time. The focus on student chefs, including the guided tours among the exhibitors, was a success, as was Vinordic School,” says Daniel Fritzdorf, Event Manager for GastroNord and Vinordic at Stockholmsmässan.

In total GastroNord pulled 22,700 visitors from more than 70 countries, and Vinordic had just over 8,100 visitors. Combined, the fairs had 468 exhibitors from 21 countries.

When 20 of Europe’s best chefs competed in the Bocuse d´Or Europe chef championships, which is the Formula 1 of the gastronomy industry, ministers, ambassadors and royalty rubbed elbows with fans who had come from around the world. There was also considerable interest from the media; in total 622 media representatives received accreditation for GastroNord, Vinordic and the Bocuse d´Or Europe chef championships, of which 121 were from other countries.

“We would like to thank everyone who helped bring the championships to Stockholm and the fair. And a big Thank You goes to the Swedish chefs who gave their time through Gastronomy Sweden and the Chef of the Year Association. We naturally also extend our congratulations to Tommy for taking home the gold! The French organizer, GL events, declared that the arrangement around the championships at Stockholmsmässan was the best to date,” says Daniel Fritzdorf.
