Bocuse d’Or Europe chef championship a boost for Stockholm as an events city and for Stockholmsmässan

Bocuse d´Or Europe is one of Europe’s most prestigious culinary events and it will be held in Stockholm as part of the major GastroNord food fair in May 2014. This event, which is a European championship for chefs, will be a boost for both Stockholm and Stockholmsmässan.

“This event creates job opportunities and enhances Stockholm’s ability to attract visitors. The competition strengthens Stockholm’s standing as an events city and hopefully that will result in more young talented people choosing the restaurant business,” explains Ulla Hamilton (M), Stockholm City’s Business, Traffic and Labor Market Commissioner and Chairperson of Stockholm Business Region.

Tourism in Stockholm County generates an annual turnover of 22 billion SEK and creates 18,700 jobs. Events account for 5 billion SEK of the total tourism turnover.

“This is an important acknowledgement that Stockholm has evolved into a prominent culinary city and of our ability to host the most diverse of events,” comments Olle Zetterberg, CEO of Stockholm Business Region

The application to host the Bocuse d’Or 2014 competition was submitted by Gastronomi Sverige AB, with support from Stockholm Visitors Board/Stockholm Business Region, Stockholmsmässan, and the Swedish Government’s Matlandet Sverige initiative. The competition will be held as part of the two major food and beverage fairs GastroNord and Vinordic at Stockholmsmässan.

“We are delighted and proud to be part of the reason Bocuse d’Or decided in Stockholm’s favour. This is absolutely fantastic and huge recognition of our ability to organize professional and inspiring events,” says Patric Sjöberg, Stockholmsmässan’s CEO.

Stockholmsmässan has organized GastroNord for more than 25 years and it has evolved into Northern Europe’s most important trade fair for people working in the hotel, restaurant and catering industry. Hosting the Bocuse d’Or competition will enhance its standing even more.
