Gastronomic Week offers up a gastronomic festival

Press release -

Gastronomic Week offers up a gastronomic festival

Gastronomic Week will be held for the third time in Stockholm between May 5 and 10. In conjunction with the GastroNord and Vinordic food and beverage fairs that are taking place at Stockholmsmässan, the general public is also offered a week of food-related events and activities around town. This year the party has an extra dimension; the Bocuse d´Or Europe chef championship is being held at the same time at Stockholmsmässan and is drawing industry people from all over the world to Stockholm.

Gastronomic Week is open to both professionals and the general public. The week focuses on food and drink in all of their forms, but it is also an opportunity to debate important industry issues such as the shortage of chefs and the restaurant tax. Behind the initiative are the GastroNord and Vinordic fairs.

“We want to gather the industry and develop Swedish gastronomy in Stockholm and Sweden. We believe that everyone will benefit from one large event. Together we can make Gastronomic Week an established occurrence – and a gastronomic festival. For us, as the fair organizers, it is also important that our visitors have an optimal experience during their entire visit, even outside the walls of Stockholmsmässan,” says Daniel Fritzdorf, at Stockholmsmässan, Event Manager for GastroNord and Vinordic.

For this year’s Gastronomic Week, several restaurants have put together special wine lists featuring only Rhône wines, and a workshop for sommeliers is being arranged at Grand Hôtel with the famous Antoine Petrus. This event is sponsored by the French Chamber of Commerce, Ubifrance, their wine importers and the industry organization for Rhône wines.

Several of Stockholm’s restaurants have also prepared special menus for the week.  For example, Stadshuskällaren is offering a special tasting menu and Långbro värdshus is offering several special dishes.

During Gastronomic Week, Nespresso is also building a temporary restaurant, Atelier Nespresso, in Frihamnen. The restaurant will offer special menus composed by famous chefs, sommeliers, bakers, pastry chefs and baristas, all flown in for the event, and where the coffee will be a natural part of every meal. GastroNord and Vinordic are Northern Europe’s largest trade fairs for hotels, restaurants, catering and fast food. The fairs are arranged every second year at Stockholmsmässan.
