Press release -
Stockholm Furniture Fair – exploring ideas and innovations
This year’s edition of Stockholm Furniture Fair presents a remarkable lineup of exhibitors, talks and cutting-edge installations, offering visitors new perspectives on design and architecture. With a carefully curated programme that merges commerce with culture, the fair serves as platform where innovative ideas are tested and relevant themes are explored.
The 2025 Guest of Honour, Faye Toogood, brings her unique voice to the fair with the installation Manufracture, in which she invites visitors into her design process. Toogood’s personal archive of maquettes takes centre stage as she opens the doors to her studio, revealing her creative process to encourage conversation and demystify the process of designing and making.
With works spanning design, art and fashion, Toogood’s interdisciplinary approach aligns with the fair’s 2025 theme, Connecting the Dots, which merges different creative fields and explores the cross-disciplinary influences shaping contemporary design. Finnish textile artist and designer Kustaa Saksi has interpreted the theme visually in a series of images created exclusively for the event, marking the first time the fair is inviting a creative visionary to craft the fair’s artwork.
The fair presents four thought-provoking exhibitions, each examining topical themes within design, society and innovation. Alexander Lervik delves into a philosophical exploration of light and colour, while Olsson Lyckefors offer a behind-the-scenes look at architectural creativity. Visitors can also explore a critical investigation of plastic as a material through Lund University’s Plastic Perspectives, as well as the timeless quality of Italian design through Italia Geniale, curated by the ADI Design Museum.
Three unique design bars offer spaces for dialogue on topics ranging from climate change and circularity to creativity and innovation. Paper Bar, by the Helsinki-based design studio Fyra, is built entirely around paper and paper-like materials. Emma Olbers’ Material Dialogues bar is conceived as an area for exploring new circular solutions and sustainable materials, while the Greenhouse bar En Bar Bara (“Just a Bar”) by All Matters Studio, blends artistry and function for a calm retreat from the bustle of the fair.
Paper Bar doubles as a venue for Stockholm Furniture Fair Talks 2025, curated in collaboration with Dezeen and Disegno Journal and featuring prominent names such as Faye Toogood, Ineke Hans, Ini Archibong, Snøhetta, Schemata Architects and Clap Studio.
As a new addition, the fair debuts Industry Talks, a seminar programme held at Material Dialogues. This series focuses on today’s most relevant topics in the design industry, with a special emphasis on innovation, sustainability and circular transformation. Presented in collaboration with TMF, the Swedish Federation of Wood and Furniture Industry, the programme gathers leading experts, innovators and decision-makers from the design and architecture sector.
Greenhouse, the fair’s dedicated platform for emerging designers, celebrates sustainability, ancient craftmanship and cultural expression. Over 35 designers from countries including Panama, Chile, Nigeria and Hungary, present projects that challenge conventions through innovative materials, methods and narratives. This year, Greenhouse also features 20 design and architecture schools, a bar designed by All Matters Studio and Svensk Form’s Young Swedish Design exhibition.
The popular Älvsjö gård returns for a third edition after last year’s successes, showcasing experimental and limited-edition pieces by designers and makers moving between small-scale work and industrial design. This year’s participants include David Taylor, whose work in aluminium blurs the line between artistry and functionality, and Jenny Nordberg, debuting a furniture series made from discarded office equipment in collaboration with the factory Soeco. The exhibition has been curated by The New Era Magazine.
With additional highlights such as creative workshops, walks & talks, book signings, author talks and temporary shops hosted by Swedish art and design book shop Konst-ig, bespoke furniture maker Public Studio and art space Way Gallery, the fair promises to be a highlight of the 2025 design calendar.
In collaboration with the Swedish Institute, Stockholm Furniture Fair is expanding its tailored trips for architects and buyers, hosting a hundred key professionals from various countries, including Switzerland, the US and Japan. The programme aims to strengthen connections between Swedish design companies and potential international clients.
The Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, will inaugurate Stockholm Furniture Fair 2025 on Tuesday, February 4. The opening speech, moderated by Li Pamp, marks the start of this year’s design fair and will be followed by a tour where the minister will meet exhibitors and discuss the future of the design industry and trade issues.
The 2025 edition of Stockholm Furniture Fair is presented in partnership with the Swedish Institute, TMF The Swedish Federation of Wood and Furniture Industry, Architects Sweden (Sveriges Arkitekter), Young Swedish Design (Ung Svensk Form), 100Gruppen, Dezeen, Disegno, Sight Unseen, Zeekr, Nobis Hospitality Group and Arlanda Express.
