Swedish champions to be crowned at GastroNord and Vinordic

Several national championships and other competitions will be held at the GastroNord and Vinordic trade fairs. Awards include Sweden's Best Pizza, Student Chef of the Year and Sweden's Best Value Wines. In addition, the first official national championships for Food Trucks and Ice Cream will be held at the exhibition. There will also be a Burger Battle, as the hotel, restaurant, catering and fast food industry gathers April 26-29 at Stockholmsmässan to mingle and do business.

Swedish National Pizza Championship
The Swedish National Pizza Championship is an annual competition for professional pizza bakers. The objective is to promote good examples of creative pizza bakers, improve professional skills and raise quality awareness in the industry. A well-renowned jury, which includes industry leaders such as Melker Andersson, has selected the eight semi-finalists who will compete on Tuesday, April 26, at 3:30PM. Four will advance to the final, which will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at 2:00PM.

Burger Battle
Eight finalists, four in each round, will compete with their own recipes and in front of an audience at the fair. Two advance from each round to the final. The sole judge is chef Christian Hellberg.

Swedish National Food Truck Championship
The first official Swedish Food Truck Championship will be held at GastroNord. Twenty competing food trucks will continuously prepare their best dishes. The entries will be assessed based on flavor, appearance, value-for-money, hygiene and the quality of the ingredients. The jury is headed by Fredrik Eriksson, owner of Långbro Värdshus and chair of the jury for Chef of the Year. The other jury members include Maria Rankka, CEO of Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, and Jens Linder, journalist and author of cookbooks.

Swedish National Ice Cream Championship
A renowned jury led by Tony Olsson from the Swedish National Pastry Team will hand out medals in the following categories: Hazelnut Ice Cream, Strawberry Ice Cream, Lemon Sorbet and Ice Cream Maker's Favorite (this category allows for a sorbet or ice cream flavor of choice). Left-over ice cream and sorbet will be handed out to the public.

Student Chef of the Year
Eight finalists are competing to be named Student Chef of the Year. The competition assignment is to create a seasonal main dish composed of Swedish ingredients to the greatest possible extent and at least one organic milk product in addition to butter. Ulrika Brydling, a previous member of the Swedish National Culinary Team, is the event director, and the jury is led by Stefano Catenacci from Operakällaren/Nobisgruppen.

Vinordic Wine Challenge 2016
Vinordic Wine Challenge is Sweden's only EU-certified wine competition and is arranged by Vinordic in association with the Allt om Vin magazine. The goal is to find Sweden's best value wines. All wines are tasted blind and individually. The test is led by Bengt-Göran Kronstam, from Allt om Vin and honorary chair of the Swedish Winewriters Association. The winners will be presented at Vinordic on Tuesday, April 26 at11:00AM.

GastroNord and Vinordic, which will be held April 26-29, are northern Europe's most important trade fairs for hotels, restaurants, catering and fast food. The fairs are arranged every other year at Stockholmsmässan.
