With your office in your pocket, is there really any reason to leave home? Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair will feature the exhibition Re-defining the Office, about what it will take to keep the workplace relevant in a cloud-based reality. The exhibition is curated and designed by architecture firm Tengbom, which has over 10 years’ experience in office design.
On April 21, 2020, the doors to the housing and construction industry’s foremost meeting place in the Nordics will open. Over four days, more than 800 Swedish and foreign companies will show their latest products, solutions and services. Added to that are seminars and special arenas and events for different fields.
At Formex on January 14–17, 2020 the focus will be on the challenges faced by retailers when the international trend and content agency Carlin takes over Stockholmsmässan’s Entrance Hall with their Retail Hub exhibition. Genre-defying designer Fredrik Paulsen has been commissioned to create the Design Bar for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, February 4–8, 2020. The menu this time round will be composed by chefs Marion Ringborg and Linn Söderström from pop-up restaurant Garba.
Christian Clemens has been named the new CEO of Stockholmsmässan. Christian most recently held the position of CEO for the airline BRA, Braathens Regional Airlines. He will take over as head of Stockholmsmässan in January 2020.
Preparations for Nordbygg 2020 are in full swing and the goal is at least a big a success as the fair in 2018 was.
As this year’s Guest of Honour the London-based studio Doshi Levien has been commissioned to create an installation for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair in February. Run by Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, the studio has an international reputation for combining culture, technology, industrial design and true craftsmanship.
A recurring and appreciated feature of Nordbygg is the materials challenge New Eyes on ceramic tiles. It is a competition directed to Swedish architecture students and where the winning contribution is realised in full scale at Nordbygg.
This year’s Formex Nova winner is Danish designer and artist Kasper Friis Kjeldgaard. In its motivation, the jury highlights Kasper’s sensual proximity to his materials and his unique feel for details and material transitions.
It is once again time for Summer Design Week in Stockholm August 19–25. During the week, Stockholm will be filled with interesting events to celebrate Nordic Design.
Design Talents is Formex’s department for showcasing new talent, where independent designers and design groups can both sell their products and display them for buyers, partners, producers and the press/media. This year’s exhibitors include several designers with innovative ceramics, fabric patterns that highlight women's history, and a building set for children.

The presentation of the Formex Nova Award is as usual one of the highlights during the Formex fall exhibition – it will take place on the first exhibition day August 20. Formex has established the Formex Nova Award – Nordic Designer of the Year, to promote high-quality Nordic design created by a still relatively unknown designer working in the Nordic interior design industry.
