Stylt Named Winner at the OPAL Awards in London for Quality Hotel The Reef
Swedish concept and design agency Stylt has been named a winner at the 2025 OPAL Awards (Outstanding Property Awards London) in the category Interior Design for its work on Quality Hotel The Reef in Frederikshavn, Denmark.
Based in London, the OPAL Awards recognize outstanding property projects worldwide across interior design, architecture, and property development, celebrating creativity and excellence within the built environment. Winning projects are selected by an international jury and showcased through OPAL’s global industry network.
Originally opened in 2010, The Reef was conceived and designed by Stylt, which created the concept, storytelling, identity, and interiors that established it as Scandinavia’s leading waterpark destination. Fifteen years later, Stylt returned to reimagine the property in collaboration with owner Stena Line and operator Strawberry, transforming it into Quality Hotel The Reef Resort.
“The ambition was to evolve The Reef into a fully fledged Caribbean resort while staying true to its original DNA,” says Erik Nissen Johansen, Founder and Creative Director at Stylt. “It’s about balancing playfulness with sophistication and creating a destination that appeals to both families and adults.”
The guiding concept ‘Danish heart, Caribbean soul’ now runs throughout the entire resort—from guest rooms and public spaces to restaurants, meeting areas, and the upgraded waterpark—blending tropical escapism with Scandinavian hospitality.
