Ten Swedish Films at the Documentary Festival CPH:DOX

CPH:DOX is one of the world’s most important documentary film festivals, where Swedish productions continue to maintain a strong presence. The festival commences today, 11 March and this year a total of ten Swedish films will be screened, four of which will have their world premieres in competition sections.

Amazomania by Nathan Grossman (World Premiere in the main section DOX:AWARD)

A hazardous expedition in the Amazon becomes a moral minefield in a thought-provoking film about the white man's gaze, as the project turns the camera on itself and the colonial legacy.

Amazomania is produced by Cecilia Nessen / B-Reel Films. The film received support from the Swedish Film Institute’s documentary film commissioner Jannik Splidsboel.


Almost Forever by Lia Hietala and Hannah Reinikainen (World Premiere in the competition section NORDIC:DOX Award)

From the carefree summers of childhood to the turbulent teenage years. Five formative years in a young group of friends in Stockholm, where their bond is put to the test as they navigate their way into adulthood.

Almost Forever is produced by Melissa Lindgren / Story. The film received support from Swedish Film Institute documentary film commissioner Jannik Splidsboel.


A Sweetness from Nowhereby Ester Bergsmark (World Premiere in the competition section NORDIC:DOX Award)

A performative and visually explosive film, where lived experiences take shape in a constant state of becoming.

A Sweetness from Nowhereis produced by Anna-Maria Kantarius / Garage Film. The film received support from Swedish Film Institute documentary film commissioner Jannik Splidsboel.


The Phantom Pain of Rojavaby Maryam Ebrahimi (World Premiere in the competition section HUMAN:RIGHTS Award)

In a secret house in northern Syria, wounded Kurdish guerrilla soldiers live with phantom pains in the shadow of a failed revolution. An Emmy-winning director’s portrayal of five years in a secret community.

The Phantom Pain of Rojavais produced by Stina Gardell and Mirjam Gelhorn / Mantaray Film. The film received support from Swedish Film Institute documentary film commissioner Anna Weitz.

In addition to the competition sections, one feature film and three short films will be screened in the ARTISTS & AUTEURS section:

La belle année by Angelica Ruffier
The film recently received the special jury award at the Rotterdam Film Festival and was the opening film at the recently concluded Tempo Documentary Festival, where it received an Honourable Mention. It will have its Swedish premiere on 17 April and will be distributed by Folkets Bio.
La belle année is produced by Marta Dauliute and Brynhildur Þórarinsdóttir / MDEMC with support from Swedish Film Institute documentary film commissioner Anna Weitz.


Mother Creature by Maria Tórgarð, produced by Gustav Ahnelöv.

You Say That You’re Staying at the Party Because You’re Having Fun by Siri Hammarén, produced by Siri Hammarén and Balder Ljunggren.

The Red Line by Mira Campau, produced by Beatrice Fröjd.


In the Sound & Vision section, Locarno-award-winning Celtic Utopia by Dennis Harvey and Lars Lovén will be screened. The film is produced by Elin Lilleman Eriksson/ MDEMC with support from Swedish Film Institute documentary film commissioner Anna Weitz.

Redoubt by John Skoog will have its Danish premiere in the Parafictions section. The film is produced by Erik Hemmendorff and Caroline Drab / Plattform Produktion with support from Swedish Film Institute feature-length film commissioner Hanna Lejonqvist.


Yesterday evening, 10 March, the festival premiered with the film Mariinka by Pieter-Jan De Pue, co-produced by Swedish producer Emilie Blezat / Dark Riviera with support from the Swedish Film Institute documentary film commissioner Anna Weitz.


The festival takes place 11–22 March in Copenhagen.
