In the twelve months leading up to 31st March 2017, there were 644,750 company incorporations in the UK. With more opportunities than ever before available to people to become their own boss, entrepreneurship in the UK is on the rise. A recent study of 2,000 UK adults found that 80% of Brits aspire to set up their own company. The study conducted by UK independent tech retailer Ebuyer found that Londoners were the most entrepreneurial, with 84% of those surveyed wanting to go it alone. Glasgow was next on the list, with 83% wanting to set up their own business, with Liverpool (82%) and Leeds (81%) following on.

Unsurprisingly, millennials were the age group most likely to think about having their own business. 90% of 25-34-year-olds and 85% of 18-24-year-olds have thought about entrepreneurship as a possible career move.

Event marketing firm, Citipeak Events are not surprised by the results of the recent study, since entrepreneurship is becoming an increasingly attractive option for individuals (especially millennials) wanting a successful career. ‘There are many reasons why people chose the route of entrepreneurship' said MD of Citipeak Events, Nick Johnson. ‘Some have a career and life goals that they want to achieve through running their own business, whereas other people do it for the higher income and uncapped earning potential. As an employee, no matter how hard you work or how many hours you put in, the financial remuneration is limited to your salary and possibly a bonus. On the other hand, the potential financial gains are so much higher as an entrepreneur compared to an employee' added Nick Johnson.

And it's not just financial rewards; Entrepreneurship gives a person freedom and control over their career, and the confidence gained in achieving set goals.

Citipeak Events states that with many attractive benefits of entrepreneurship, there are still some barriers that stop others taking up this option. The study highlighted that the biggest barrier that stops people setting up their own business is a lack of money at 67%. Fear of failure was next on the list (44%) plus a lack of time (26%) and a lack of resources (18%).
