​Countdown is on to the Asda Foundation Bury 10k

Local runners and racers from across the North West are getting set to head to Bury town centre on Sunday 15 September for the fourth running of the Asda Foundation Bury 10k.

Since its launch in 2016 the run has raised tens of thousands of pounds for local good causes.

Many of the runners will be taking part to support a good cause of their own choice or be raising funds for one of the event’s partner charities – Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Bury Hospice, Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity and WHAG, which helps homeless women and families fleeing domestic abuse.

Starting close to The Rock retail and leisure venue at 9.30am, the 10K runners will follow a route that will see them pass Bury Parish Church, the Fusilier Museum, Bury Art Museum, along Manchester Road, Dumers Lane, Bury Road, Radcliffe Road and back towards The Rock.

Councillor Andrea Simpson, Bury Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The Bury 10k is a great day for everyone; for the runners taking part, and the many spectators that turn out to cheer the runners on. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere and it’s great to see everyone coming together and supporting each other.”

Immediately following the 10k, at around 11.45am, it’s ‘family time’ as runners young and old line up for the 1.4k free-to-enter Arena Group Family Fun Run. Those taking part are encouraged to support the fun run’s official charity, which this year is the North West Air Ambulance.

Cllr Simpson continued: “The Family Fun Run happens straight after the 10k and it’s a great opportunity for families to get moving and enjoy some quality family time. It’s free to enter, open to those aged 3 and above, and there’s a medal and a goody bag at the end for everyone who crosses the finish line.”

Mandy Rivett, Asda Foundation coordinator, said: “Since its launch in 2016 the Bury 10k has become a very popular element of the Asda Foundation Series. It’s always inspiring to see so many people taking on the challenge to support good causes and I wish all the runners the very best of luck.”
