Updated Statement about emergency on Nelson Street

Thank you to all the emergency and other services who responded so quickly to the explosion yesterday.

The council’s Building Control service is arranging for the demolition of the three affected properties, which should take place later today, following investigations by the relevant agencies at the site.

The council’s emergency response team has supported the residents with alternative accommodation.

Residents of the other properties were allowed to return to their properties yesterday.

We’re making sure that the properties of the houses to either side are secure with any work needed to be carried out by our joiners.

Nelson Street and Hanley Street remain closed.

If you are affected or are worried about someone who could be, please ring our emergency number on 0161 253 6606.

Our thoughts are with the injured resident and her family.
