Press release -

Better road repairs across Bury

Two new machines have hit the streets to improve road repairs throughout the borough of Bury.

Known officially as caterpillar skid steer loaders, the new machines cost £46k each and were supplied by Caultric Ltd of Bolton, following a successful tender exercise. The investment complements the Government’s pot hole investment grant of £244,561 and the additional maintenance fund of £192,770.

The new loaders, which are expected to increase efficiency and save costs, were chosen following a 12-month trial of three difference machines and a range of different techniques.

Councillor Tony Isherwood, cabinet member for the environment, said: “These new machines are going to make a real difference to road repairs and minor resurfacing works across the borough, increasing productivity by 30-60% depending on the repair.

“This investment in modern equipment will save on materials and assist our valued workforce with providing improved, longer-lasting minor road repairs for many years to come.”

Road faults and potholes can be reported to Bury Council online at www.bury.gov.uk/reportaproblem
or by phone to 0161 253 5353.
