Press release -

Bin collections back on following suspension of strike

Households will have their bins collected as originally scheduled next Tuesday (14 Oct) after trades unions suspended their planned strike action.

In anticipation of the industrial action, Bury Council had cancelled Tuesday’s rounds and arranged alternative collections on Sunday and Monday (12/13 Oct) for around 25,000 homes whose bins were scheduled to be emptied on the Tuesday.

Residents are asked to note that these alternative collections will NOT now take place, after national leaders of the Unison, Unite and GMB unions suspended the strike yesterday afternoon (Thurs 9 Oct).

A council spokesman said: “We apologise to affected residents for any inconvenience caused, and ask them to please put out their bins by 7am on Tuesday 14 October.”

Please note: if you have received a leaflet informing you of a one off collection of your green bin on Saturday (11 Oct), this collection will still go ahead.

Residents can check which bins are due to be emptied by using their new collection calendar, or online at http://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=3426
