Bistro ‘finishing touch’ to £1.6m short stay improvements

A bistro for customers and the wider community is to be the latest development at Elmhurst short-stay service in Whitefield.

It will be the finishing touch to a £1.6 million refurbishment of the facilities, carried out by Bury Council.

Elmhurst has been completely modernised and refurbished to a high standard with a ‘hotel feel’. It has 27 beds, with a separate four-bed unit for people with learning disabilities with its own entrance and facilities.

The council is now looking to create a bistro at Elmhurst, which will provide catering for short-stay
customers in the unit, their visitors, and the local community.

The bistro will promote healthy eating and be an inclusive community hub, providing work placement,
volunteering and apprenticeship opportunities for disabled people and young people

Councillor Rishi Shori, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The new look Elmhurst is superb, offering high quality services to its customers. With the new bistro, we can reach out to local people and help make everyone feel part of the community.”

The council is going out to tender for the bistro contract: details can be found at https://www.the-chest.org.uk/
