Blooming Radcliffe gets golden hat-trick

Radcliffe stormed to anther Gold Award at the prestigious 2013 North West in Bloom finals.

The town has now achieved the highest standard in the large town category for the third year in a row.

In the North West in Bloom Neighbourhood Awards, Abbey Close Tenants and Residents Association were delighted to receive a Thriving award for all their hard work improving and enhancing Redbank Lodges and for transforming the community and memorial garden at Melrose Gardens.

Also thrilled were residents and volunteers at Abbeyfield House who achieved the same standard for their beautiful residents’ garden and home-grown fruit and vegetables.

Councillor Jane Lewis, cabinet member for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “Radcliffe in Bloom has the community firmly at its heart with so many people getting behind it. To win gold for three years in a row after only four years’ of entry is an amazing achievement for Radcliffe in Bloom, its supporters and our workforce.”

A big ‘thank you’ for all their hard work and commitment goes to:

  • The Rotary Club of Radcliffe
  • Abbey Close Tenants and Residents Association
  • Friends of Close Park
  • East Lancs Crematorium
  • Radcliffe Townswomen’s Guild
  • Wesley Methodist and Radcliffe Hall primary schools
  • Residents of Abbeyfield House
  • Radcliffe’s self-managed allotment holders, particularly Douglas Davies who completed a Duke of Edinburgh award working on the allotments
  • Business sponsors Morris Homes and V4G Workwear.

Cllr Lewis added: “Congratulations also go to Radcliffe Grounds Maintenance Team for their efforts in introducing attractive and sustainable planting throughout the town and the area street care team for keeping Radcliffe clean and tidy.”

Achieving a gold award means that the 2013 Radcliffe in Bloom entry was classed as an excellent entry that involved all sections of the community on a grand scale.
