Bury Adult Learning celebrates another great year for learners

Bury Adult Learning Service hosted its annual Learner of the Year Event at The Fusilier Museum in Bury, celebrating the achievements and success of learners from across the borough.

The special event brought together learners, staff, volunteers and dignitaries from Bury Council. The event highlighted the positive impact adult learning has on individuals, families and the wider community.

The celebration was attended by the Worshipful the Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Councillor Mohammed Tahir Rafiq, who presented the certificate to the overall Learner of the Year and joined in congratulating learners on their hard work and commitment.

Also recognised were the volunteers who give up their time freely to support other learners. They were presented with certificates in recognition of the invaluable contribution they make to Bury Adult Learning Service.

Guests were treated to a performance by the Bury Fire Choir, whose entertainment added to the warm and celebratory atmosphere of the evening.

Councillor Gavin McGill, Cabinet Member for Culture, Economy and Skills and Chair of the Service's Advisory Group, said:

"It was my absolute pleasure to attend the Learner of the Year Event this year and present certificates to the learners.

This type of event is always a special occasion and provides a great opportunity to meet the learners nominated by their tutors. They are a credit to Bury Adult Learning Service and have shown outstanding passion, commitment and determination to improve themselves through learning. I'd like to congratulate all the learners and wish them every success for the future."

The new course guide for courses starting in September is now available from Bury Adult Learning Centre, libraries and community venues across the Borough. A copy can also be downloaded from www.bury.gov.uk/adultlearning
