Bury Adult Social Care is Good

Adult social care services recognised by regulators and residents alike

Independent inspections, resident feedback, and performance data are all pointing in the same direction: adult social care services in Bury are making a positive difference to people's lives.

Reports presented to Cabinet this week show a picture of strong performance across adult social care, with Bury recently receiving an overall GOOD rating from the Care Quality Commission, Killelea House achieving the highest possible OUTSTANDING rating and residents rating services above national averages across most measures in the latest adult social care survey.

The latest reports also show that 89.1% of care home beds in Bury are rated Good or Outstanding, with the borough ranked first in Greater Manchester for both learning disability supported living and care at home services.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Public Service Reform, said: “The most important question we should ask about any service is whether it makes a difference to people's lives.

“It is particularly encouraging is that we're seeing positive feedback from both independent regulators and the people who use our services.

“That gives us confidence that the work being carried out every day by staff and partners across our health and care system is making a real difference. “

The Care Quality Commission highlighted strong leadership, effective safeguarding arrangements, partnership working and person-centred support as strengths within Bury's adult social care services.

Meanwhile, the latest Adult Social Care Survey found that resident satisfaction has improved across almost every headline measure, with performance now exceeding national averages in most areas.

Councillor Tariq added: “We're proud of the progress that's been recognised, but we're not complacent.

“The reports also identify areas where we know we need to improve and we're already acting on them.

“What matters is continuing to build on these strong foundations and ensuring that people receive high-quality care, support and advice when they need it.

“I am so proud of our staff, partners and service users. The challenge now is not just to maintain these standards, but to ensure Bury is at the heart of the drive for change across adult social care nationally. We want to champion reform, share our learning and help shape a system that delivers better outcomes for everyone who relies on care and support.”

Bury’s adult social care teams support thousands of residents every year through assessment, safeguarding, reablement, neighbourhood support, care services and partnership work with the NHS, voluntary organisations and local communities.
