Bury athletics track to be replaced thanks to £75k grant

The athletics track and high jump track surface at Market Street in Bury are being replaced.

Bury Council, in partnership with Bury Athletics Cub, secured a grant of £75,000 from Veolia Environmental Trust to make the improvements.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, cabinet member for adult care, health and wellbeing, said: “I am absolutely delighted to see the works under way at the Bury Athletics Track and the council have invested £325,000 capital funding to support all the refurbishments at the site.

“The club are doing a fantastic job at supporting everyone to move more and deliver programmes for all ages and all abilities and offer an inclusive programme for all. The support from Veolia Environmental Trust has enabled the track refurbishment to progress and this is a great community facility that will support future generations.”

Veolia Environmental Trust said: “We were pleased to provide a grant of £75,000 through the Landfill Communities Fund to help resurface the athletics tracks at the Market Street sports facility in Bury.

“Improving important community amenities like this helps to ensure that people can stay fit and active and maintain a sense of pride in their local area. Providing first-class sports facilities in the community also means people don't have to travel as far to exercise, thus reducing their carbon footprint and saving them money.”
