Press release -

Bury Council out and about to discover what you want in your neighbourhood

What’s going on in your neighbourhood...and what would you like to see? This is what Bury Council and its partners will be asking you when they get out and about over the next few weeks at a series of events they’re hosting across the borough.

You know what you need and want in your area so we invite you to make the most of these opportunities to share your thoughts and hear about the help Bury Council and key partners such as the police, health services and the voluntary sector can give you in driving forward your ideas.

The events are ‘drop-ins’ so people can find out what’s available for them in their community and how to get involved. There will also be information about how to pitch for funding for projects, as well as the chance to give us your ideas to help inform planning for future initiatives.

The aim of these community events is to work together to improve our neighbourhoods. They are intended to bring community groups and residents together to showcase the good work that is going on as well as connecting people to help each other.

Councillor Rishi Shori, leader of Bury Council, said: “We want to work alongside you to make sure that the services we provide are exactly what’s needed within our communities and people feel empowered to take charge of their own lives and live life to the full. We’re shifting our approach from being council-led to being joined up with our neighbourhoods and to make this happen we need your input and ideas.

“We are getting out and about to listen, learn and share information with you – so please join us at one of our get-togethers in your community. These events are all about informing future policies and projects to make sure that we are genuinely making a difference to the lives of people who live and work in Bury.

“There will be plenty of opportunities to talk with service providers and community groups and speak with local councillors and officers about how we engage with you and your community and how we’ll work together to address the issues that matter most to you.”

The events take place from 5-7pm on the following dates:

  • Whitefield/Unsworth: Wednesday 1 November at Elms Community Centre, Whitefield
  • Bury East: Thursday 2 November at Bury College
  • Radcliffe: Thursday 9 November at Radcliffe Market Hall Community Room
  • Bury West: Monday 13 November at Woodbank Cricket Club
  • Prestwich: Thursday 16 November at the Longfield Suite, Prestwich
  • Ramsbottom, Tottington, North Manor: Monday 20 November at Ramsbottom Cricket Club
