Press release -
Bury gets ready to run: Bury BID 10K returns on 7 September
The highly anticipated Bury Running Festival is back, and the countdown is on for Sunday 7 September as the 10K along with the Mini and Junior editions return.
Participants of all ages and abilities will take to the streets of Bury once again as runners are set to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.
Organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, and staged in partnership with Bury BID and Bury Council, the event has continued to grow in popularity since its launch in 2016, with its suitability for all abilities making it a popular event.
Nigel Shields, Bury BID town centre director, said: “The Bury Running Festival is more than a race – it’s an opportunity to showcase everything our town centre has to offer. Events like this bring hundreds of people into Bury, creating a real buzz that benefits our local businesses and builds pride in our community. At Bury BID, we’re proud to support initiatives that not only encourage healthy living but also shine a spotlight on the vibrancy and welcoming spirit of our town.”
Councillor Tamoor Tariq, cabinet member for adult care, health and public service reform, said: “Whether you're chasing a personal best or simply soaking up the atmosphere, this is your chance to be part of something truly special. Participants will enjoy scenic routes, live entertainment, exclusive race-day goodies, and the unbeatable buzz of crossing the finish line surrounded by cheering crowds. It’s more than a run - it’s a celebration of health, achievement, and community!
“Let’s make this the biggest and best event yet - sign up now and experience the energy, the joy, and the pride of being part of this annual event.
“My sincere thanks to all event entrants from Bury and beyond and to the organisers, volunteers and business sponsors who together make this event a huge success – I’ll see you on the start line!”
The 10K will kick off at 9.30am outside The Rock shopping centre, taking participants out of the town centre onto the Kirklees Trail, before looping back into town for the all-important finish line.
The Mini and Junior races will follow, starting at 11.30am, also with a start and finish line at The Rock. Open to those aged 3 plus, participants of all abilities are invited to wheel, walk, jog and run, as organisers work to make the event accessible to all.
Providing a vehicle for participants to fundraise for charities is the primary aim of every Run For All event, as well as ensuring that the money raised stays local and supports causes that the community needs.
Participants have been encouraged to fundraise for a chosen charity or for one of the event’s official partner charities: Backup, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Jigsaw and Trust House.
The Mini and Junior events are this year partnered with the charity PhysCap; a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for children living with physical and learning disabilities, providing funding for specialised and therapeutic equipment.
The weekend will also see many runners take on the 10K after huge personal challenges, including Carl, 65, who will be running after winning his battle with prostate cancer. Now 6 months in remission, after 12 months of treatment, Carl has made it his mission to run the race every year until he is 70 – this year will mark his 5thyear taking part.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Run For All, said: “We’re delighted to welcome runners of all ages and abilities to the start line at the Bury BID 10k and Mini and Junior races this weekend.
“Whether participants are running for fun, for a cause close to their heart or for a personal challenge, we want to wish everyone the best of luck and hope they have an enjoyable race day experience.”
