Bury Metrolink park and ride facilities to be expanded

Press release -

Bury Metrolink park and ride facilities to be expanded

Parking capacity will be significantly expanded at park and ride facilities in Radcliffe and Whitefield after Bury Council’s Planning Committee approved two applications from Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).

The applications, for the addition of a new deck to the parking areas at each Metrolink facility, were approved by the committee on Tuesday (20 August) night.

The work will begin in early 2014 and will increase the number of car parking spaces at Radcliffe from 250 to 364 and the number of spaces at Whitefield from 127 to 210. This represents a 52 per cent increase in the overall number of spaces.

Public information events were held at both sites in May this year to inform users about TfGM’s proposals and invite feedback.

Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee said: “The parking facilities at Radcliffe and Whitefield are starting to reach their maximum capacity. That’s why Metrolink is expanding the car parks at both sites, which are provided free of charge to passengers, so I’m delighted that we’ve secured planning permission and can now press on.”

During construction, the facilities will be closed or at reduced capacity for a period of time. Further information about this will be available closer to the start of work.

All park and ride facilities are free to Metrolink customers with a valid ticket and can be viewed at www.metrolink.co.uk/Pages/Park-and-Ride.aspx
