Bury to offer holiday school meal vouchers during October half-term

Bury Council will once again provide free holiday school meal vouchers for over 6,000 children over the October half-term break next week (25 – 29 October 2021).

Continuing the Council’s previous holiday support which included fun activities and healthy food over the summer break, the vouchers worth £15 a week per child will be distributed via schools to the parents and carers of pupils that are eligible for free school meals.

The vouchers can be used to buy food in most supermarkets ensuring every child has access to a healthy meal during the week long break from school.

Holiday school meal vouchers make a huge difference to families, particularly those struggling as a result of the pandemic. They ensure children and young people can enjoy nutritious food whilst also helping to alleviate financial pressures on families.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Children Services, Young People and Skills, said:

“Many people are struggling to make ends meet. We are determined to continue to support local families and ensure that no child ever has to go hungry. Whether at school or at home, all children should have access to a square meal.

“Free school meals are a lifeline for thousands of families across Bury, and the return of the school meal vouchers once again during the October half-term break will ensure local children will get the food they need over the holiday.”
