Bury’s first Queer Fest takes place this Saturday

Bury Art Museum is to host the town’s first Queer Fest on Saturday 21 June.

This is a day of free events designed to celebrate LGBTQI+ literature, arts and culture, from 10am to 5pm.

There will be stalls from a variety of artists and writers, as well as drop-in badge-making, writing and performances.

The School of Curiosity will run creative writing workshops at 10.30am and 2.30pm, while beginning at 12pm is Fabulous Figure Drawing with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

At 11.30am, Steven Appleby will take part in a Q&A with Malcolm Garrett, talking about his latest exhibition ‘I’ve had enough of secrets’, followed by a book signing. There will be a further Q&A at 3pm with Matt Cain and David Catterall.

Spoken word performances will be delivered at 1pm, with a Polari Bible reading from Jez Dolan at 4pm.

The day continues at 7.30pm at The Met with an award-winning play by Joshua Val Martin. Titled ‘With Love, Mr Gay’, it is based on a true story of a homophobic death threat for moving a neighbour’s bin.

The event has been funded by Bury LGBTQI+ Forum and the Stronger Together fund with support from Bury Council, Bury VCFA and the MHCLG.
