Businesses invited to ‘green’ summit to reduce Bury’s carbon footprint

Bury Means ‘Green’ Business – and local companies are invited to a breakfast summit to discuss how we can all tackle climate change.

The conference will be held at the Fusilier Museum in Bury town centre (opposite the Art Gallery) on Tuesday 9 November, starting at 8am.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: “Bury Council declared a climate emergency in 2019, and our Climate Action Strategy sets out the many ways that we can all work together to reduce our carbon footprint.

“Businesses have a crucial role to play in this. Climate change is a real threat to our communities, but it's also a tremendous opportunity for Bury to help to provide the green jobs of the future.

“Greater Manchester has 880,000 houses that need to be retrofitted, heat pumps will replace gas boilers, hydrogen will come on stream, EV charging points will be installed on every street and solar panels need to be installed as GM needs 50% more power by 2050.

“These jobs will be high skill and high pay, many of our tradespeople will have to reskill and learn new trades, and we need at least 1,000 apprentices each year as we embrace the green agenda."
