Can you provide healthy meals for service users?

Social services are seeking a contractor to provide the meals service at the Grundy centre in Wellington Road, Bury.

Providing good value healthy meals for older people at the day centre will be the ‘icing on the cake’ at Grundy, which has recently been refurbished.

The service will operate in the future as an ‘Active Living Centre’ that will provide customers with opportunities to take part in local activities, enjoy the company of others, and access all sorts of information and services to keep them well and active. The centre will be a vibrant ‘hub’ providing a café style environment and hosting a variety of activities, as well as being a source of information about preventative services and activities for older people.

While the cafe is mainly for customers of the day service, the aim is to encourage local residents in the wider community to use it.

The café will therefore need to work in conjunction with the onsite day service to:

  • Provide healthy meals/options for purchase by customers, staff and the wider community, to eat on or off the premises
  • Promote healthy eating and wellbeing to the community/customers
  • Provide a community hub which promotes inclusion
  • Make a positive social impact, such as in terms of social integration or work experience/job opportunities
  • Contribute to employment and economic development in Bury by providing work placement and volunteering opportunities for people who are socially isolatedor who have a disability

This opportunity is being tendered on The Chest (www.the-chest.org.uk) and an open day is being held on the morning of Tuesday 10 February.

Anyone interested in this opportunity or wishing to attend the open day can contact Brett Nelson on 0161 253 6135 or brett.nelson@bury.gov.uk
