Candidates declared for Moorside elections

The candidates have been confirmed for the Moorside election which will take place on Thursday 18 June.

The full list of those standing for election in this ward is:

Jill Budgen – Bury Independents

Alan Derby – Reform UK

Jihyun Park – The Conservative Party Candidate

Conor William Craig Priestley – The Green Party

Sandra Walmsley – The Labour Party

Yasin Aamer – Workers Party of Britain

The original election in the ward was cancelled following the death of one of the candidates, Victor Hagan, who was standing for Reform UK.

The date has been set as a new election must be held within 35 working days of the planned local elections on Thursday 7 May and new poll cards have been sent to all affected voters.

Remember – you will need to take photo ID with you to vote at a polling station on election day.

If you don’t have any of the eligible photographic IDs, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate from the Government. To apply, go to https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificateor call the helpline 0800 328 0280. The deadline to apply for voter ID, for this election is 10 June.

Are you on the electoral register? If not, the deadline to register to vote in these elections is midnight on Thursday 2 June. To register, go to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.You will be asked for your National Insurance number, but you can still register if you do not have one.

Postal voting - If you do not usually vote by post, you can apply online at https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.

You will need to apply by 5pm on Wednesday 3 June. We will send you a ballot paper about two weeks before the day of the election. If you apply to vote by post, you will not be able to vote in person at a polling station.

Proxy voting - the deadline for applying for a proxy vote, where you allow someone you trust to vote on your behalf, is 5pm on Wednesday 10 June. Go to https://www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote

Residents will receive a polling card before the elections which tells you where your polling station is. These stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 18 June.

The votes will be counted immediately after the poll close at 10pm and the results will be published on our website (www.bury.gov.uk) and on our social media channels. The declaration will also be live streamed.
