Celebrate diversity and tolerance on The Walking Rainbow

Young people in Bury are organising a family-friendly event to celebrate diversity and promote equality across the borough.

They invite people to join them on the Walking Rainbow, which will march through the town centre on Sunday 13 July.

People are asked to assemble outside Bury Town Hall from 12.30pm. The walk will start at 1pm, going along the old Rock and down to Kay Gardens, where there will be activities, information stands, music and speeches from a number of supporters.

Young people from Bury’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Youth Group and Bury Youth Cabinet are hoping people from all ages and backgrounds will join them.

The event is supported by Bury Council, Greater Manchester Police, The Lesbian and Gay Foundation, Gaydio, Backing Young Bury, The Rainbow House Project, Streetwise and more.

Councillor Gill Campbell, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Tolerance, equality and respect are all fundamental to a modern democracy, and young people in Bury can be proud to play their part in promoting these values.”
