Children inspired to look after the environment

A Tree Walk of Bury will be created and feed into a series of climate action workshops aimed at schools and families.

Children will be invited to share their creative ideas inspired by the walk and the birds in their natural history collection and create stories and pictures that imagine their journey to a future habitat rich in biodiversity.

The things the children make in the workshops will be brought together in a collective work of art, unveiled during a weekend of activities for all ages on 22 April, which is Earth Day 2023.

The project is being run by Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre with funding from the Art Fund’s The Wild Escape Project.

Councillor Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture and economy, said: “We are delighted to receive this grant and are looking forward to creating workshops to share with Bury schools and families. The workshops will be part of a bigger exhibition opening on 4 March called For Man is Coming Here. The exhibition will explore climate change caused by our actions.”

Two Bury schools have already signed up to take part in the project, which will run between 4 March and 22 April (Earth Day).

However, the workshops will be rolled out to the gallery’s family audiences after 22 April until 21 October on (some) Saturday mornings. Families should check the gallery’s website for the dates and times that they will take place.
