Press release -

Clarence Park skate park closed for use

The skate park at Clarence Park in Bury will be closed off to all users until further notice from today (Friday 2 October).

Due to constant vandalism the skate park is in disrepair, it is no longer viable to maintain and it is not safe to use.

Users of the skate park are warned not to enter and to heed the notices posted on site.

The skate park was installed 15 years ago as part of a programme of improvements throughout the park.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, said: “The skate park has been popular with users and has served the community well over this time. But the constant vandalism and anti-social behaviour have meant we have had no choice but to close it.

“We took this step reluctantly but it is sadly necessary to keep people safe while we consider the next steps. We simply cannot afford the spiralling costs of having to keep fixing vandalised equipment over and over again.”

In the coming weeks a feedback survey will be carried out to give the community the opportunity to tell Bury Council what they want from their local park. The feedback will be used to help shape sustainable future plans for the park as a whole.

Clarence Park first gained the Green Flag award in 2005 and has retained the award every year since – 15 years running.
