Come join the Walking Rainbow

Young people in Bury are organising an event to celebrate diversity, promote equality and say ‘no’ to homophobia.

They are inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to join them on the Walking Rainbow through the town centre on Sunday 12 July.

The group will assemble outside Bury Town Hall at 12.30pm to begin walking at 1pm. The route will go to The Rock and down to Kay Gardens where there will be activities, information stands, music and speeches from a number of supporters.

The event is organised by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) Youth Group based in Bury and Bury Youth Cabinet. It is supported by Bury Council, Greater Manchester Police, Foundation Events, The Lesbian and Gay Foundation, Manchester Pride, Gaydio, The Rainbow House Project, Streetwise, Unison and more.

Lead organiser Nathalie McQueeney said: “Anyone can come along and join the fun; it’s time to celebrate the diverse and welcoming community of Bury.”

Councillor Mike Connolly, leader of Bury Council, added: “Bury is rightly proud of being a great place to live, work, visit and study in. Let’s celebrate the values of equality, respect and tolerance that make the borough what it is.”

You can keep up to date with the event via Twitter (@walkingrainbow1), Facebook (‘The Walking Rainbow 2015’) event, ‘The Walking Rainbow’ page, and Bury Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
