Everyone is welcome to come along and honour local soldiers during the Gallipoli Campaign in the First World War.

The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will commemorate the Gallipoli Campaign with a parade and service at Bury Parish Church on Sunday 26 April.

The Gallipoli Campaign was fought during the First World War and took place in present-day Turkey.

At dawn on 25 April, soldiers of the Lancashire Fusiliers came ashore at W Beach, west of Cape Helles at the southern tip of the Gallipoli Peninsula, as part of an Allied attempt to force the Ottoman Empire out of the war.

The Lancashire Fusiliers earned lasting renown during the landings, being awarded the legendary “Six VCs before breakfast.”

In recognition of their bravery, W Beach was later renamed Lancashire Landing in honour of the battalion that captured it.
