Clean-up at Clarence Park

Press release -

Community spirit keeping our parks and neighbourhoods clean

Volunteers are at the heart of a summer programme of clean-ups which have already cleared tonnes of rubbish from our neighbourhoods.

A series of 16 clean-ups is being held across the borough as part of the council’s Let’s Do It! Strategy to galvanise communities and foster civic pride.

The first six sessions have already taken place – at the Mosses Centre, Welly Community Café, Ulundi Street, King’s Road Play Area, Boz Park and Clarence Park.

And they have already cleared up 286 bags of rubbish and 5.9 tonnes of fly-tipping.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, said: “These sessions have been a tremendous success so far, and a great example of partnership working in action.

“Hundreds of local volunteers, residents and members of community groups have joined council staff and councillors to keep their areas clean.

“I’m very proud of the visible efforts these sessions are making in our communities, and I look forward to continuing this programme through September.”
