Council and police in drive for community safety

Keeping our communities safe was the hot topic when a team from Bury Council met their counterparts in Greater Manchester Police.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, the council’s new lead member for community safety, went to Bury Police Station to meet Territorial Commander Chris Sykes, Chief Superintendent Karan Lee and Chief Inspector Stephen Gerrard of the neighbourhood policing team.

The meeting discussed community safety priorities for the borough, in particular domestic violence and abuse, hate crime and anti-social behaviour.

Cllr Tariq said: “I am delighted to take the lead for community safety on behalf of the council. The enthusiasm of our local communities who work closely with us and our stakeholders cements the passion and drive of our continued partnership working in keeping our communities safe. Together we can make a real difference.”
