Council by-election called for Thursday 2 April 2026
Following the resignation of Councillor Luis McBriar, two requests from registered electors in Tottington have been made to the Returning Officer for a by-election to be held in the Tottington ward. The successful candidate will be elected for a two-year term, which is the remaining period available for this appointment.
The by-election will take place on Thursday, 2 April– and residents in Tottington are reminded that they will need photo ID to vote in person.
The scheduled local elections, where electors can vote for one candidate in each ward, will continue to be held on Thursday, 7 May 2026, for all wards, including Tottington.
Anyone who wishes to stand for election must obtain the relevant form from the Returning Officer at Bury Town Hall and return it by 4pm on Friday, 6 March. Contact the Returning Officer by emailing electionservices@bury.gov.uk or call 0161 253 5252.
The elections team will be holding a briefing session for all prospective candidates and agents on Tuesday, 3 March, at 5.30pm at Bury Town Hall. Please contact electionservices@bury.gov.uk to confirm your place.

Polling stations in Tottington will be open from 7am to 10pm on election day.
If you vote at a polling station this year, you will need to show identification which contains a photograph of you.
