Press release -
Council reviews its licensing policy
Consultation has begun on the council’s licensing policy, which has to be reviewed every five years.
Comments are invited from individuals, organisations and representatives who may be affected by or have an interest in the licensing policy.
The consultation is open to everyone, and closes on 22 October 2025. To take part, go to Bury Licensing Policy consultation - Bury Council
Once the consultation has ended, all comments received will be reviewed and published on the council’s website. The policy document will then go to the licensing and safety committee and then to full council for approval, and come into effect in January 2026.
The policy sets out how the council will grant and enforce licences, in line with the law and government guidance.
It is based on the four licensing objectives: the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance, and the protection of children from harm.
This policy relates to a number of licensable activities, including: the sale of alcohol, public performances of music or theatre, certain sporting events, and hot food served between 11pm and 5am.
