Press release -

Deadline extended for flood victims to claim £5k

Homeowners and businesses hit by the Boxing Day floods now have until 30 April to apply for grants of £5,000 to protect their premises from future flooding.

This is a separate scheme from the £500 flat payments that Bury Council gave to flooded householders to replace items damaged by Storm Eva.

These £5k grants are to fund measures which improve the property’s resilience or resistance to flooding, over and above repairs that would normally be covered by insurance. The work may vary from house to house, but might include a flood barrier or measures to reduce the impact of floodwater which enters the property such as replacing carpets with waterproof tiling and moving electricity sockets away from the floor.

If you are a tenant, please contact your landlord as they will need to make the application for any works to your property.

The council has now extended the deadline for applications to allow residents more time to obtain surveys and quotes for the work.
