Press release -
Derelict garage colony to be demolished
A colony of derelict garages, which has attracted repeated anti-social behaviour, is to be demolished by Bury Council.
The 28 units, at Hawk Close in Bury, have lain empty for a long time and are in poor condition, with asbestos in the roofs.
Councillor Clare Cummins, cabinet member for housing services, said: “These garages are beyond economic repair and are subject to repeated acts of vandalism, drug-taking and setting fires, and are a constant cause of nuisance and concern for residents.
“We need to remove this blight on the neighbourhood and improve the local environment.”
The demolition plan is due to be approved by councillors at next Wednesday’s (15 Oct) cabinet meeting, with options for the site to be drawn up within the next six months.
