​Derelict properties turned into new homes

A row of derelict properties in Radcliffe has been brought back into use by Bury Council and Six Town Housing.

The four homes, in Albion Street, lay empty for years and blighted the neighbourhood, but are now being lived in by new tenants.

The buildings' owners repeatedly failed to bring them back into use, despite numerous attempts by the council to bring about a sensible resolution.

The council finally used Compulsory Purchase Orders to buy the properties, which have been refurbished and tenanted by Six Town Housing, the arm’s length organisation which manages the council’s housing stock.

Councillor Rishi Shori, leader of Bury Council, said: “It’s been a long process, but we have finally been able to bring these properties back into use, which will help the ongoing regeneration of Radcliffe and give people a decent, affordable home.”

Emma Richman, director of assets at Six Town Housing, said: “Refurbishing the four properties helps to breathe new life into the area. We are very pleased to have been part of this project in partnership with Bury Council to transform this eyesore of dereliction and disrepair into much needed quality, affordable housing.”
