Don’t miss ‘Colour Collect’ at Bury Light Night

Award-winning artist, Liz West is creating a unique light exhibition at Bury Art Museum to coincide with Bury Light Night on Friday 16 October 2015.

The vivid environment will be on show at the Art Museum from 9 October to 27 February with the one-off opportunity to view it at the extended opening until 9pm on the night of Bury Light Night.

The new light exhibition has been in the planning between Liz West and Museum Curator Susan Lord since September last year. The exhibition responds to Bury Art Museum’s wide-ranging historical collections and will be positioned in the museum space on the lower ground floor. With its contemporary white cube design the space offers no distractions and is the perfect location for this piece of work.

Artist, Liz West said “As an avid collector, I have always been drawn towards finding objects that sit together cohesively, yet individually hold significant importance. Many of my sketchbooks and notes are laced with examples of objects arranged collectively in a specific order or pattern and with colour studies side-by-side. Within ‘Colour Collect’ I have openly visualised my scrapbooks, using the museum’s collections as my resource.

“I am delighted to be working with Bury Art Museum and hope that visitors enjoy the immersive colour light installation that accompanies the displayed objects.”

Following Light Night a special artists talk will be held in the museum at 2pm on Saturday 17 October where visitors can meet artist, Liz West and discuss her piece.Places cost £3 per person and should be booked in advance with Bury Art Museum on 0161 253 5878.

Bury Art Museum is located in Bury town centre on Moss Street, close to the bus and tram interchange. For more information about Bury Light Night visit www.bury.gov.uk/burylightnight.

Colour Collect exhibition

The museum objects included in the exhibition will be chosen on the bases of colour rather than their stories, historical value or local interest allowing them to be reinterpreted by the viewer.

By displaying them in this way the objects become colours, shapes and forms. Some of the objects will be packed together to give impact to a certain colour and some will stand alone highlighting their singularity crispness and strength. Because of this curatorial approach none of the objects are interpreted in the traditional sense, inviting the viewer to view them as objects of beauty which respond to the space and West's light intervention.
