Elizabethan Suite turned into flu jab centre

Bury residents who are eligible for a free flu jab can get one at the Elizabethan Suite next to Bury Town Hall.

Anyone who is aged over 50 or has a qualifying underlying health condition is entitled to a free vaccination this year.

Health and council leaders are keen that as many people as possible take advantage of this offer and protect themselves against this potentially serious illness.

The Elizabethan Suite will be open for flu jabs from Thursday 10 December to Tuesday 15 December (including Saturday and Sunday) from 9am to 5pm.

For more information, and to book your flu jab, go to www.buryvc.co.uk

Fin McCaul, clinical lead for long-term conditions at NHS Bury CCG and pharmacist at Prestwich Pharmacy, said: “This is the first year that the NHS has provided free flu vaccinations for all people in England over the age of 50. This winter we feel it is especially important to get your flu vaccination and to protect you and your family.

“This is a great example of GPs, pharmacies and the council working together to make sure we cover as many residents of Bury as possible.”

Lesley Jones, Bury’s director of public health, said: “Proper flu is nothing like a common cold – it can put you out of action for days, cause serious health problems and even be fatal for some. I urge everyone who is eligible to get their free flu jab to protect themselves and their loved ones, especially older people and those with underlying health issues.”
