Events during Black History Month

A range of events is taking place across Bury to mark Black History Month.

Black History Month proudly celebrates the contribution Black people have made and continue to make to our vibrant and diverse society. Our aim over the next month is to engage, inform educate and showcase the talents, inspirations and stories of local Black people.

Libraries and Archive collection

Throughout October.

Bury Libraries and Archive service has put together a special collection highlighting Black authors and literature, including e-books and audio books available at: Library catalogue - Search the catalogue and request library items and a display at Bury Library.

Spirit of a Place and Presence - Black Art.

15 October 2022 to 21 January 2023 – at Bury Art Museum, Moss Street, Bury.

This exhibition looks into the stories of people from different heritages, ethnicities and communities who now consider Bury their home. Bury-based artist Charmaine Turner, in collaboration with the African and Caribbean Women's Centre in Bury, has produced work that explores identity and the shared experiences of modern life in Bury, historical presence and cultural traditions.

NCA Cultural Event – Fairfield Adult Centre, 15 October.

Hidden Voices - The Met Theatre, Bury - 20 October 2022.

Paul Fairweather will highlight the intersectionality between Black history and the LGBTQI+ community

Cultural Event – Blackburn Hall, The Wylde, Bury – 21 October.

Diwali Parade - Sunday 30 October, 5.30pm.
