Press release -

Everyone’s a winner at the Pitch – that’s no lie!

There were smiles all round at the latest Pitch event when local groups won thousands of pounds for their projects.

No fewer than 16 organisations presented their case for funding at Saturday’s Pitch, which was held at Ramsbottom Pentecostal Church for people in the Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor area.

Following a public vote, the top 13 were awarded the full amount they had applied for, with the bottom three receiving half, so no one left empty handed.

The successful organisations, and their projects, are as follows:

  • Greenmount Village Community: West Pennine Way. To buy waymarkers to encourage more people to walk without fear of getting lost.
  • Tottington Wildlife Watch (TWIGS): TWIGS Field. To develop a field near Kirklees Street and create facilities that encourage young people to take an interest in wildlife.
  • Walshaw Sports Club: Extension of safety netting. Extending along Sycamore Road to prevent cricket balls from coming over.
  • Tottington and Bury West Rotary: Whitehead Gardens project. Working with Tottington Primary school and other groups to revitalise the gardens.
  • Friends of Hazelhurst Primary School: Hazelhurst sensory garden. Interactive furniture to benefit the school and wider local community.
  • Ramsbottom Together: Ramsbottom’s Great Get Together and Bus and Bees Toddler Group. To fund the second Great Get Together event on 23 June.
  • Bury2gether: SEND Support Bury (Special Education Needs and Disabilities). Providing a forum to support carers of young people with SEND, with project workers for outreach support and help for families.
  • Bury Volunteer Rangers Service: Clearing, conserving and restoring. Bringing back to life an orchard, creating local pride and opportunities for volunteering.
  • Bury Tandem Club for Blind and Partially Sighted People: Tandem cycle equipment upgrade.
  • Greenmount Village Pre-school: Young children’s mental health and wellbeing. Teaching yoga and mindfulness to promote wellbeing.
  • Friends of Tottington Library: Is this the queue? New toilets to accommodate the increasing number of visitors.
  • Ramsbottom Running Club: RRC junior section. Launching a new junior section with weekly running sessions for 6-14 year olds, plus training volunteers to coach.
  • Tottington Public Band: New uniforms. To replace the old ones bought in 1997.
  • Ramsbottom Pentecostal Church: Sensory den. For children with special needs and disabilities.
  • D:Caff: Dementia awareness booklet. To print 10,000 copies with advice on how to support neighbours and friends to live well with dementia.
  • Summerseat Village Community: Defibrillator. Installation of external defibrillator for use by the community 24/7.

Three more Pitch events are coming up – why not go along and cast your vote?
