Everything’s going Green at new Clarence Park centre

A new community centre and cafe is well on the way to completion at Clarence Park in Bury.

The bowling pavilion is being transformed into The Green, as part of Bury Council’s commitment to modernising services for people with learning disabilities.

As well as being a new base for service users, it will also be extensively used by local residents and
community groups.

The Green, situated in the centre of the park and close to the main sporting and recreational amenities, will become the hub of activity in the park. It will also host a community cafe, serving a range of tasty, fresh and healthy drinks, meals and snacks.

As the work enters its final phase, the council will soon advertise for a partner to run the cafe. The aim is to officially open the centre in July.

Councillor Rishi Shori, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: "It’s really exciting to see new services for some of our most vulnerable customers coming to fruition. The council is committed to investing in learning disability services and The Green is the first of a number of planned new venues, from which we will deliver modern services, within the community and closer to people’s homes. And the fact that everyone in the community can use this brand new centre is just the icing on the cake.”
