Press release

Fixed Penalty Notices for litterers and fly-tippers

A further three fines have been issued by Bury Council to people who illegally dumped their waste in our borough.

Two fixed penalty notices of £800 were issued for fly-tipping offences at Rectory Avenue, Prestwich and Milltown Street, Radcliffe.

A further £75 FPN was issued for littering on Stokes Road, Radcliffe.

Since 1 April 2026, the Council has already issued:

  • 6 Fly Tipping FPNs.
  • 5 Littering FPNs.

This equates to 11 FPNs in the first quarter of 2026/27, demonstrating that enforcement activity continues at pace.

Our Environmental Enforcement Officers work closely with Bury’s Control Room, Housing, Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods teams to share intelligence, identify offenders and support investigations.

By working together across services, we are tackling fly-tipping and other environmental crimes that harm our neighbourhoods and green spaces. Intelligence, CCTV footage, vehicle details and information from partners help us identify those responsible and take enforcement action, including Fixed Penalty Notices, cautions and prosecutions.

This joined-up approach is delivering positive results, helping to protect our local environment and send a clear message that environmental crime will not be tolerated in Bury.

There are 21 recycling centres across Greater Manchester, including two in the borough of Bury, where residents can take their waste free of charge for disposal. For local and other centres visit: www.bury.gov.uk/recyclingcentres

If using someone to dispose of their waste, residents should ask them for their address and telephone number, their waste carrier licence, and ask where their waste will be taken to. You can carry out an instant (and free) check of their credentials via the Environment Agency: https://environment.data.gov.uk/publicregister/view/search-waste-carriers-brokers
